Len is angry that Melissa's inquest returned an open verdict with no suggestion that she was murdered. He questions Joe, who recalls to himself that he found Melissa's body and stole a necklace which he gave to Liz. Later he confesses to killing her but Len is not convinced, especially when he discovers that Liz has been on the run since her stepfather died in suspicious circumstances. Some months later, the case apparently resolved, Vidya has thrown Michael out for his affair with Liz and is raising her baby with help from Len, who has moved into the building. Kieran and Patricia are about to get married. Has Melissa's killer been captured - or are they still living in the house?

Vidya investigates when she sees a hooded man fleeing the empty flat after writing Skank on the wall. She contacts Len - whose terminally brother has just died - and they track down a friend of Melissa, who tells them she believes Melissa was having an affair with a married man. This turns out to be Kieran, and Adam was aware of the fact, blaming her for his father's alcoholism. After Michael has persuaded him to have a drink with him Kieran gets violent and tries to take Patricia by force and she leaves him. Elaine goes to great lengths to stop Peggy going whilst Len hits Adam after the boy has called Melissa a skank. Michael has sex with Liz whilst brooding on the harsh treatment he had from Joe at school. Vidya has a fall on the stairs, risking the baby, but Liz calls for help as well as telling Michael Joe does not keep her a prisoner and that he was kind to her when she was in trouble. Episode #1.2

Vidya dresses Len's head wound as he relates his suspicion that Melissa could have been murdered. Joe forbids Liz to go out because she is a kleptomaniac but Michael is surprised to learn that the other tenants assume Joe lives on his own and gets in to see Liz, who is nervous and tells him to leave. Patricia and Adam discover that Kieran has not told them of the other's existence but Patricia is perturbed at the boy's interest in her. Peggy prepares to leave Elaine though neither of them tell Len immediately that they asked a reluctant Melissa to model for their design company for a brochure that was never published. They describe the situation as a one-off, omitting to tell him that Elaine threatened Melissa when she wanted to get publication stopped and a guilty Peggy returned all the copies and the negative to Melissa. At the time Richard consoled Melissa, calling the two women unpleasant bitches - a term Patricia uses to describe them to Vidya at her and Michael's flat-warming party. Back at home Len gets a call saying 'She's Better Off Dead'.

Lowlights

#4 S1E1 Episode #1.1 7.4

Michael and his pregnant girlfriend Vidya move into a flat and discover leakage coming through the ceiling. To their horror they discover, in the attic, the remains of Melissa Young, a previous tenant, who has been dead for over two years. Widowed inspector Len Harper investigates and speaks to the house's other occupants - assertive Elaine Markham and her subdued partner Peggy Scott, journalist Kieron Moss and his initially surly young son Adam and disabled maths teacher Joe Sellers, who owns to disliking Melissa and who once taught Michael. He also interviews by Skype Richard Webb, who sold Michael the flat and now lives abroad. Every single one of them assumed that Melissa had moved and are of no help in the investigation . Michael discovers that Joe lives with a former pupil, Liz Fletcher, who seems to be his mute servant whilst Kieron tells girlfriend and colleague Patricia he will not publish the story of Melissa as it could ruin his chances of selling his flat. Len retires and is given a bow and arrow as a leaving present but is determined to find out more about Melissa's death and decides to conduct a private investigation. However, whilst in her old flat he is hit on the head by an attacker who escapes.
